Privacy Policy

We built Barlouque to know as little about you as possible. Here’s exactly what that means.

Last updated 1 October 2026

Draft template — requires legal review before launch.

1. What we process

  • Network address: used for a moment to connect you, then turned into a salted one-way hash. We use the hash for rate limiting and bans. We never store or log your raw IP address.
  • A random device identifier: a random ID stored in your browser (not a fingerprint). It is hashed on our servers and used to honour blocks and bans.
  • Session state: whether you accepted the terms, your chosen interests and who you’re paired with, held in memory for up to 24 hours.
  • Messages: relayed to the other person in real time. The last few messages of a conversation are kept in memory for 15 minutes so that a report can include them. If nobody reports, they disappear.
  • Reports: if you report someone (or are reported), we store the category, optional note, the hashed identifiers, the time, and the recent text of that conversation.

2. What we never collect

  • Video or audio. Media goes directly between browsers or through an encrypted relay we can’t read, and is never recorded.
  • Names, emails, phone numbers or accounts.
  • Advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

3. Optional on-device safety check

Where enabled, a nudity-detection model runs inside your browser on the video you receive, to blur it and prompt a report. Frames are analysed locally and never sent to us.

4. Retention

  • Session data and rate-limit counters: up to 24 hours.
  • Unreported messages: up to 15 minutes, in memory only.
  • Report transcripts: 30 days by default, then automatically deleted.
  • Report metadata, bans and moderation audit logs: kept as long as needed for safety and legal obligations.

5. Sharing

We don’t sell data. We share information only with service providers that run our infrastructure (bound by contract), when required by law, or with child-protection authorities such as NCMEC when we encounter suspected child sexual exploitation.

6. Your browser

We store in your browser: your terms acceptance, theme, sound preference, a random device ID and a per-tab session token. You can clear them at any time in your browser settings.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, delete or object to processing. Because we don’t know who you are, we may be unable to link data to you. Contact us and we’ll help where we can.
